HSE Scoping Study 2005

A panel was formed to review all aspects of met-ocean conditions that might pose a risk to FPSO's. A website was established for this study and can be accessed here.

Fatigue of Ageing Semi-Submersibles

PAFA Consulting Engineers completed a project for the UK HSE examining methods for the determination of the remaining fatigue life of semi-submersible vessels approaching the end of their design lives.  The methods developed are suitable for use with data typical of that calculated during the original design process.  For more information, click here.

KTP program with University of Surrey 

PAFA Consulting Engineers started Knowledge Transfer Partnership program with the University of Surrey. This 30 month project was funded by the Department of Trading & Industry (DTI) focusing on the fatigue and reliability issues of floating offshore structures.

ASRANet Symposium

Three papers by PAFA staff members were presented at the 2nd International ASRANet Colloqium to be held in Barcelona in July.  They covered the following areas:

  • Reliability Calculations for Design of FPSOs and FSUs Against Green Water Loading.

  • Reliability Calculations for Design of FPSOs and FSUs Against Wave Slam

  • Application of Ship and Offshore Structures Limit State Criteria in ISO Standards

OMAE FPSO Specialty Symposium

PAFA staff members have written four papers for the upcoming OMAE FPSO Specialty Symposium, being held in Houston in late August this year.  The titles of these papers are:

  • Shuttle Tanker to FPSO Collision Scenrios and Associated Energy Levels

  • General Requirements for Limit State Guidance for Ship Structures

  • Update of Risk and Reliability Issues for FPSO Structural Design

  • A Design Evaluation Methodology for Green Water and Bow Impact Type Problems
