Naval - Marine PAFA Consulting Engineers have assisted the rule makers to formulate requirements for extreme wave loads, for the ultimate and fatigue strength of members, connections and stiffened plates and for ship collision behaviour. We have also assisted in the development and refinement of the International Standards for floating offshore structures and station-keeping systems. Safety-related services in risk assessment, reliability analysis and improved lifeboat launch mechanisms for escape, evacuation and rescue can be provided. Our naval architecture and marine engineering services encompass a knowledge and understanding of fluid dynamics, extreme loading conditions and vessel local and global behaviour. FSUs/FPSOs are often designed to ship rules and may be conversions of existing vessel hulls. Extensive knowledge of ship rules and offshore operations give us an invaluable insight into design requirements for floating structures. Steep waves are increasingly an issue in the shipping offshore industries and we have responded by leading studies into the magnitude and effect of wave slam on the hull and greenwater on the deck of FSUs/FPSOs. Recent projects in this area we have completed include: Floating Structures : PAFA Consulting Engineers have undertaken a wide variety of projects relating to floating structures, for both the oil and gas and maritime industries. Green Water : PAFA Consulting Engineers have carried out a review for the UK Health & Safety Executive of offshore industry methods applied to design for green water and wave slam on FPSOs and FSUs. Ship Impact : PAFA Consulting Engineers have developed formulae that allow estimates to be rapidly made of the energy, force, penetration and time relationship for a ship impacting a bridge pier. Time Dependent Reliability of FPSO Hull Structures : Study performed for the UK Health & Safety Executive examining trends in the reliability of FPSO hull structures.
